DALLAS, Apr 15, 2017/ — One of the world’s most recognized brand, McDonald’s turned 62 today. Nicknamed by some as the “Arches of America” due to the yellow arches created by the letter M, McDonald’s began as a small business, believe it or not.
Founded in 1940 as a barbecue restaurant by brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald, it refocused its business to hamburgers as a main fare in 1948. But, it is the opening of the Des Plaines, Illinois location on April 15, 1955 that is being celebrated today. This franchise shop belonged to businessman Ray Kroc who built McDonald’s to what it is today.
That shop is now a museum housing artifacts from the growth of the chain. Now, for trivia lovers, the
the oldest operating McDonald’s restaurant was the third one built, opening in 1953 which predated Ray Kroc’s owning the business. If you are at the 10207 Lakewood Blvd. at Florence Ave. in Downey, California (at 33.9471°N 118.1182°W) and want to have some hamburgers, go to this McDonald’s and see a part of gastronomic history.
